Warriors of Uttar Pradesh in the Freedom Struggle of 1857:


The list of some Hero / Warrior/ freedom fighters from Uttar Pradesh in the Freedom Struggle of 1857 are:

  • Mangal Pandey ( Born in Ballia)
  • Rani Lakshmibai ( Jhansi's queen)
  • Begum Hazrat Mahal ( Oudh/Lucknow)
  • Bakht Khan ( Born in Bijnor,)
  • Maulvi Liaquat Ali ( Leader from Prayagraj/Allahabad)
  • Nana Saheb ( Kanpur)
  • Tatya Tope ( Commander-in-chief of Nana Saheb, Kanpur)
  • Maulvi Ahmadullah Shah ( Rebel leader from Faizabad)


Mangal Pandey:

He was born in the Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh.

He was the sepoy in the Bengal Native Infantry ( 34th Regiment) of the British East India Company.

He was the first freedom fighter of India who revolted against the East India Company.


Rani Lakshmibai:

Varanasi is the birthplace of Maharani Lakshmi Bai.

Rani Lakshmibai was the queen of the princely state of Jhansi.


Due to the Doctrine of lapse ( introduced by Lord Dalhousie), the adopted son of Rani Laxmi Bai, Damodar Rao was not considered as the real heir by East India Company. Therefore, she revolted against the British in 1857.
