What is Social Science? | Definition and Major Branches

Social Science is primarily the "science of society", which focuses on the study of societies and the relationships among individuals within those societies.

Social Science is the study of people at different levels[ individual, Communities, and Societies], their behaviors, and their interaction with society and the environment.

Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, Political Science, Economics, History, Geography, and Linguistics are major branches of Social Science and they all focus on the study of human behaviors at different levels and different perspectives.

For Example:

Psychology: It focuses on the study of individual behavior, mental processes, and emotional states.

Anthropology: It focuses on the study of human cultures, both past and present, and their development.

Sociology: It focuses on the study of society, social institutions, and social relationships.

Political Science: It focuses on the study of political systems, governance, and political behavior.

Economics: It focuses on the study of how societies allocate resources, produce goods, and distribute wealth.

History: It focuses on the study of past events, civilizations, and historical processes.

Geography: It focuses on the study of the Earth's landscapes, environments, and human societies.

Linguistics: It focuses on the study of language, its structure, and its role in human communication.

It uses both theoretical and scientific methods to examine and study the different aspects of behaviors, which is why it is considered both science and art.
